While reading my devotion for the kids lesson tonight at church, I was touched and thought I would sit down and share with you all. We all tend to live up to what others expect of us. What we say to others can help them grow or discourage them from growing. Have you examined your speech lately? I mean not checking for swearing, but for blessings and cursings? What percentage of your words are positive, what percentage are negative? There was a poem by a lady named Dorothy Law Nolte, it was called
"Children Learn What They Live"
If a child lives with criticism, he learns to condemn
If a child lives with ridicule, he learns to be shy
If a child lives with encouragement, he learns to be confident
If a child lives with approval, he learns to like himself
Bless your children with words spoken from a heart full of Jesus' love and joy. More important than the words we say is the way we say them. Our feelings can be sensed and can have a larger effect than our words. Help your kids learn that, through Jesus, they can overcome negative things people say to them, and learn to be positive in what they say to others. This challenged me to really examine the words that come out of my mouth.
